Doors
Replacement doors
A new door fitted costs roughly £700 for uPVC up to £7,500 for a wide aluminium bi-fold. For a front door, composite is the usual recommendation at £900 to £2,350. Whatever the material, the locking system and the cylinder matter more for security than the door itself.
Start with what the door has to do. A front door is mostly a security and insulation decision, a back door is a durability one, and a patio opening is a question of how you want to use the space.

Choosing
The security specification that actually matters
People choose a door on appearance and assume security came with it. It mostly did not. Three things do the work, and all three are worth naming on a quote.
- A PAS 24 tested doorset, meaning the whole door and frame were tested together, not just a PAS 24 lock dropped into an untested door.
- An anti-snap cylinder to TS007 three-star or Sold Secure Diamond. Cylinder snapping is still one of the most common ways a door is defeated, and the upgrade is cheap.
- Laminated glass in any pane within arm's reach of the handle. Toughened glass shatters out of the way; laminated stays in the frame.
